The candy boxes

The candy boxes are going to be started today. Erin sent me this pic of samples they did last night. This is not the final look of the boxes, but various tests. It gives an idea of how beautiful these are going to be when completed, though.

I am so excited.
To get all the candy, Jonny drove to four Wal-Marts in the Omaha area. LOL.

As well, Keturah sent me her coming soon ad for the calendar and it is fabulous. I’m not posting it here because it should be a wonderful surprise.

The other ads will roll in later today. We’ll go to print tomorrow.

I spoke with Hanif last night, and his catalogue essay is coming along. It is really exciting to see it develop.

I installed the teasers in Fringe’s windows today. They look amazing.

Carol-Anne and Keturah are, from what I hear, now working around the clock. Day jobs 8am-6pm, studio making ceiling panels 6pm-2am.

Ote sent me a rough of the Japanese distro poster yesterday. And today a new version, both are below. They are really coming along.

Nobu and I spent an hour or more yesterday trying to work out the film title in Japanese. In the end we’re using the kanji, Ketsu Nikku Ghe Datsu.

Again, I can’t even begin to express how amazing the folks at 23E Studios are. It really blows my mind how hard we’re working.

Teleconference, Marcella descriptive, Lynn and Hanif

On Thursday the 14th, Marcella and I attended an alumni gathering at California College of the Arts for MFA Media Studies. Due to email troubles, it was very poorly attended. As well, Lynn, one of CCA’s finest faculty, wanted to try something new and so instead of the traditional party, she set it up as a salon, with everyone who desired showing work. I asked Marcella to present Disembody.

That worked out really well. It’s always surprising to see what elements of the project others are focussed on. M, for her part began at the blog, and focussed a great deal on the collaborative nature of the project, and the disappointment therein. She also talked about how hopeful she was about the project, because of what she feels it represents. I videotaped the whole thing, and can’t wait to get the footage up. Maybe later this week I’ll have a chance. I know Skye and elise will love it, because it shows such a different side of the project from what I always talk about.

The next day I met Lynn at her studio and we talked about some of her upcoming projects. She’s a working on some really nice new works. She’s also in discussion with Susan about showing at Fringe, which is nice. Lynn supplied me with a slew of alumni names to look up in LA. I’m hoping ot get contact info from her in the coming days. A number of the folks she suggested I speak with might be able to advise on PR. In the original plan for Disembody, I was going to be completely focussed on PR at this stage. HAH! That didn’t work out, did it?

Later that day I met with Hanif and we discussed art. He’s considering applying to MIT for a PhD, eventually.

Which brings me back to the beginning of last week, when Jonny and Erin and I had our first teleconference. It was over an hour. And quite fun, despite initial technical problems. We covered a lot of ground. I need to follow up tomorrow. Erin is about to start a new slew of pieces for us. She’s slated to create ads, postcards, posters, the ephemera page, two print catalogues and a newsprint one sheet schedule for the theater. LOL. Yeah, like she’ll have the time for all of that…

Jonny also has his hands full. I may try and get him out here in June. We need to work on the confessional; streaming multiple webcams; timelapsing multiple webcams; uploading to the internet archive; getting the ephemera page functioning; building a wiki of references and influences to sell as an encyclopedia on a usb stick; and getting a hard drive catalogue up and running.

Heavens.

Tightening the conceits

Yesterday I met with Hanif and Kate Phillimore. They went over the text thus far generated by Disembody, and really tightened up the language so that the ideas are less occluded by my sloppy words.

I also had the pleasure of meeting with Steven Lieber. Steven is my thesis advisor. But he was kind enough to indulge in the mechanics of Disembody with me for awhile.

Today I will be updating the website to reflect these discussions.

Pink Foam Delivery

This morning we received a $2,500 investment through an old friend in Chicago. Which is good news. We’re slowly but surely whittling down the last several thousand dollars we need for materials.

Today I borrowed Carol-Anne’s truck and picked up the Pink Foam we are using for the ceiling and vents. I dropped it off at Carson’s studio, where we’ll be creating Penrose tiles from it.

Last night I met with Hanif, who is just F***ing brilliant. His critique of the texts we have for the investor’s pamphlet was incredible. It was penetrating, questioning every sentence, structurally and conceptually. It improved the pamphlet by leaps and bounds. Sadly, it also meant returning the beautiful file to Erin who is already under the gun and overworked. Sad. I attempted the improvements myself, but my inDesign skills lack most everything desirable. I only have enough skill to destroy beautiful things.
