Update as always

There is little to report on the 23E Studios front.

I am staying in LA for awhile instead of moving East next year to play music. The MVM’s name was put in the hat for a residency at LA MOCA.
Initially I was thinking to focus on The MVM if they call. I was reticent to put the whole 23E crew back together. We came out of the Morgellon pretty bruised and bloody. Any time folks on a project compare it to the Stanford Prison Experiment, and with obvious justification, it may seem time to take a step back.
OTOH, there are at best a handful of people on Earth The MVM would like to work with more than the people who make up 23E Studios, and who made Disembody and the Morgellon happen.
And the more I think about it, the more I feel certain that should LA MOCA call, it is not The MVM that should receive their generosity, but 23E Studios.
Which will be strange because there are a lot of us now. I kind of think everyone on the bio list would have to be included as part of the show…
Fuck, conceptual rigor can be such a pain in the ass.

In Chicago, Phil and Libby are working on turning the songs they recorded for the soundtrack into an album.
Stel is working and being a family man. And thinking about Portal 8, which I hope he will be a part of.

In Omaha, Erin is working at a new design job, and Jonny is working at a junk yard. And thinking about Portal 8. He is also looking into technical college.
Both were offered pretty fabulous opportunities by Susan after the show. I suspect we’ll hear more from both of them in the coming months.

In Los Angeles, Susan is keeping busy with Fringe, SRL and the Lightning Lab.
elise is working odd jobs and making art.
Amy is editing videos for the NFL.
Janet is worrying about the election.
Arthur is rushing to finish a documentary on the dance company Ririe-Woodbury.

At work way back when

In Nevada, Jack is finishing High School.

In SF, Nightmare City are simply out of control, producing new work at incomprehensible speeds. There website is the best site online right now. Their lives are frightening. They have pretty much devoured Alex. Skye is a serf sowing their seeds. 23E is, of course, just property they used and discarded. Soiled.
marcella has been making videos and collages. And curated an evening at the Colony Room at New Langton Arts.
David, well, we keep trying to connect, but, dang he’s busy.
Ted, too, though the other day we ran into each other on the street as I waited for my bus home to LA. He looked good.
Carson is playing magic the gathering pretty regularly. He’s painting and showing and courting some sort of success. He moved Carol-Anne into his closet.
Hanif is looking at PhD programs. And being brilliant, as always.
Kathryn is directing, set designing, costume designing and seamstressing a play for next year’s DivaFest at the Exit in SF.

Me, I am struggling to finish my thesis requirements. There are three:
I have a 5000 word essay (first draft) due this afternoon, which I haven’t started. My thesis, with Section 10 and the conclusion still unwritten is ~19,000 words. So, this afternoon I’ll be going at it with the power saw in an attempt to find coherency in 25%.
The thesis proper needs those final two sections written and images inserted. I send the final draft off in less than two weeks. I sent the current draft to advisors last night.
The thesis presentation (10 minute powerpoint) and defence is three weeks away. I’ll make the presentation in the week between sending in the final draft and the defence.

gads! In December I’m off to the East coast (and then the Midwest and Northwest) for a few months. I’ll be creating the enpsychlopedia disembodica at that time. That’ll be the 23E Studios wiki for explaining every single reference and inspiration in Disembody.
More on that trip in a later post.
When I get back to L.A. in March, life becomes one long logging and uploading and tagging session while I complete my responsibilities to Disembody.
So, expect far more blogging once the thesis dies down at November’s end.
