Fringe update
May 4, 2008
I stopped by Fringe yesterday; chatted with Susan for over an hour. As always, she was great - incredibly supportive.
I’ve begun experiencing a great deal of trepidation as the date approaches. A mix of fear and shock that we’re almost a year into this project, and two months from its launch in the gallery, and thus far no one has stopped me. From the beginning I was confident in presenting a ridiculously grandiose set of ideas for Disembody because I was confident someone would put the brakes on me. Or at least money would.
But, nope, from day one Disembody has been embraced and supported by the most incredible group of people. And now we’re approaching the actual show and it looks like I’ll get more than I initially dared hope for. That’s pretty frakking incredible. Susan reminded me of this.
We also talked about promotions. Where and how and to whom to promote Disembody at this stage. LOL. So, this is about as not me or my style as a work can be. But, of course, that’s the point, every work is about pushing beyond boundaries and self, and coming out the other end a different person. This project will be my grandest butter sculpture ever.
We also discussed the construction: working with the concrete floor and wall, and the plaster and lathe ceiling. Electric looks like it will also be an issue. And we’ll definitely need to upgrade their internet connection while we’re there.
Susan mentioned that she’s starting to hear buzz about Disembody, as well. Which might be the most disconcerting news of all. LOL
