It seems like we could use all the computers on earth for this project. Though a sub set there of might be easer to manage.
How many computers do we need?

What do we need the computers to do?
1.Fire-i webcam: needs firewire
2.Usb webcam: needs usb
3.confession booth: needs firewire
4.capture/logger: needs ?
5.editing: need fcp
6.web: needs?
7.film_audio: needs?
8.sndtrk: needs?
9.arcade: needs?
10.video upcode/transcode comp

What computers can we use?
LP G4:
LP laptop:
LP tower:
Arthur:
Susan:
Alex:
jonny’s old HP laptop: is a 1GHz intel with 512MB ram, has xubuntu 7.10, firewire
erin’s laptop: is a 1.8GHz intel with 2GB ram, has windows XP, Adope CS2, firewire

What we might use them for:
Jonny’s HP can be used for the confessions
erin’s can be used to update the website

I think I will bring a laptop to just use… it’s an eee, and if we need to use it for something else we can, though for now I’m planning on just using it.

  1. lee’s laptop is 2ghz intel with 2GB ram, XP, 4 USB, firewire dv, can take two std firewire with pcm card
if this weren’t a PC it could capture/log. But it runs Vegas not fcp and life will be easier if we’re just running one video program. So, this could be a usb webcam or arcade machine.

    lee’s G4 tower is 1.4GhZ PowerPC, 1 GB ram, OS 10.3.9, 6 US, 2 firewire
this could be the firewire webcam

lee’s PC tower is 3.4 GhZ Intel, 2 GB ram, XP, 6 usb, 4 firewire, firewire dv
This has ProTools MBox2 installed. I would suggest it serve as the computer for the recording studio, as it is set up as an audio machine.

arthur’s PC is prolly around 1.4GhZ, 2GB ram, XP, usb, firewire
could upcode/transcode. Was designed as video machine, but unreliable running more than one program. This is a dodgy machine, but it’s in LA and available.

  2. i’ll be bringing my laptop, 2ghz dual core dual-boot kubuntu 7.10/winXPpro but i think i’ll need it for audio work. i don’t know yet. i can borrow my kids’ laptops, 1ghz celeron vista, 1ghz g4 osX, and an older 500mhz g3 osX. i have a fireward pcmcia card too. i can bring my still camera and my kid’s. i might be able to get some old desktop g3s too. oh and i have another 700mhz intel laptop with kubuntu on it.

  3. do we need machines for each of the cameras capturing time lapse? If so that’s three machines for time lapse.

  4. I would like to be able to run the streaming and the time-lapse of the same computer. So far I have one computer talking to all three cameras at the same time and I can record ogg or get jpgs. I think it should be possible to run them all off of one computer.

  5. okay. that’ll be long cable runs. One camera will be on the first floor in the loft, near Jonny and Erin’s office.

The other two are downstairs, one in the recording studio, one covering the production office.

Maybe do it with two cameras?

  6. Okay, so we got the editing computer now. But for capture/log we need a later model G4 with
1.25GHz G4 or better with at least 1GB of ram
    Stel? got one of those?
