So, it looks like we may have a puppeteer coming out from the East Coast to participate in the film. I’ve asked him to spend the week of production with us in the gallery. He will be making puppets of the build and production crews. And, then when we don’t capture an important moment on video, he can re-enact it for the film.
Okay, am I soooo excited.
Also, I spoke with one of my musical partners, Nobu, and he’s been speaking with Honyo, the amazing artist who designed our first two CD covers, among many other things. He’s working on the movie poster for the Japanese release. It is going to be faboo!
And just now I broached two new aspects of the project with the crew.
Awhile ago we considered posting on the website every email the project generates. So that people could follow the development, or recreate the work through that deep documentation. We opted against that. However, the hope now is to present every email in a massive catalogue that is available at the concession stand.
And I’ve always wanted to post all of the footage from the film, or a lot of it anyway, online for others to edit. To put it under a Creative Commons license. To that end I asked the crew today how they feel about us posting clips online, and making them downloadable so that anyone who desires can create a version of Disembody.
With luck we’ll have footage of pre-production meetings going up this week.

Two boxes of clothes arrived yesterday at the 23E sweatshop on the Oregon coast.
We are very excited about this. It now appears certain that our concession stand will feature at least 23 pieces of clothing, each hand embroidered with our logo. Well, I think. As with most aspects of the project, I’ve tried to leave open my request so that the embroider can create something that is as exciting for me to see as everyone else.
I can say she has the logos for both 23E and Disembody. So I imagine they’ll be a part of what we get back.
We also expect to have rings and broaches for sale at the concession stand. I am very excited about these. If the people who are definitely supplying goods had websites, I’d link through to them. But they don’t. What kind of sweatshop has a website?
We’ll also have a perfume available. With luck, we’ll have a few. The perfumer, Yosh Han, has been a part of the project since conception. She created the scent for The MVM work, The Henry Wing, last year. It was a fabulous scent. We are super excited that we are working with her again.

Lord, as if posting my every monotonous move weren’t enough; as if posting the budget and hours weren’t enough - we have also been trying to videotape all of our meetings. Yesterday I captured the first ten hours that I have. Keturah and Skye also have some they are digitizing.
Today I began editing my footage into, what I hope are useful bits. Skye, Elise and I will probably watch these in April to try and make a few trailers and teasers. As well, I’ll start loading them up on youtube and 23estudios.com. Ultimately it’s my hope to have the footage available online with an in-browser video editor so that people can make their own versions of Disembody.
For now, we’ll probably post under a Creative Commons license, so that people who have editing software will be able to download the clips to use as they please.

Another insight Skye had, was that by leaving the in kind items we are getting, and there are lots of them, out of the budget, we are doing the production a great disservice. If we include all the in kind items the budget may go up considerably, but a much greater percentage of the overall budget can then be seen to have been reached. If the full cost of the production is $70,000, and we’ve reached $45,000, well, that paints a very different picture of the incredible support and generosity that have poured into Disembody.
Jonny has posted a budget page on the website. I have a few tweaks to make to it, and then it should be live for all the world to see how this project is coming together.
Oh, and they’ll get to see why I should have brought an accountant onboard first thing.
And while we’re on the subject, over at our time clock you will be able to follow the hours put in to the project. We don’t know how accurate these will be, as no one is obligated to punch this clock. But, with luck most folks will offer up this insight into the project.
